  • Create a Self Signed Certificate

Before you purchase or create a CSR for your SSL Certificate for GoDaddy, create a self-signed certificate first. You can do this by going to your server app and clicking the ‘Settings’ tab on ‘SSL Certificate’. Hit ‘Edit’ then ‘Manage Certificates’, hit the ‘+’ button then the ‘Create a certificate identity’.

Leave the default options and keep on clicking ‘Continue’ until you reach ‘Subject Alternate Name Extension’ and provide all the domains that you are going to use your certificate on. Hit ‘Continue’ and you’re done.

  • Create a CSR

Next, create a Certificate Signing Request by going to your server app and clicking on the gear with an arrow on the self-signed certificate that you have just created. Choose the ‘generate certificate signing request (CSR)’ then copy the file that will appear on a dialog box.

Go to GoDaddy and paste the CSR copy on the field provided for the Certificate Signing Request on the ‘Manage Certificates’ option. Download your SSL Certificate once it is ready and go back to your server app.

  • Install Your GoDaddy SSL Certificate

Go to ‘SSL Certificate’ and choose the self-signed certificate that you have created. Click the gear and arrow icon and choose ‘replace certificate with signed or renewed certificate’. Upload the SSL Certificate file into the window by dragging the file onto it. Hit ‘replace certificate’.

Open the keychain access, go to ‘Categories’ and choose ‘Certificates’. Drag the .crt file that you have downloaded from GoDaddy. go back to the server app, go to ‘Settings then on the ‘SSL Certificate’, hit ‘Edit’. Choose the new SSL Certificate that you have just uploaded and assign the services in the new certificate and you are done.
