Instructions

Here is a simple instruction on how to install GoDaddy SSL in non-GoDaddy hosted website.

  • Generate a Certificate Signing Request

You should generate a Certificate Signing Request from your web hosting provider before you can get your SSL Certificate copy from GoDaddy. You can use various tools on generating a Certificate Signing Request. Just make sure that you have your CSR signed by your web hosting provider before you submit it to GoDaddy for approval.

  • Download of SSL Certificate Copy

Once you have submitted your Certificate Signing Request to GoDaddy, you will receive emails that contain the instruction on how to install your SSL Certificate and the SSL Certificate copy itself. You can either download the certificate copy or copy it from the email that you have received if the SSL Certificate is embedded on the email.

You can save the SSL Certificate copy on a folder in your computer where you can easily retrieve it. Just be sure that it is in a safe place.

  • Installation of GoDaddy SSL Certificate

Depending on the web server software that you are using, you will follow specific instructions so that you can successfully install your SSL Certificate on your non-GoDaddy hosted website. There are control panel systems on various web hosting service providers that will enable you to automatically install an SSL Certificate on your website.

But commonly, you will have to use a web server software where you can upload the GoDaddy SSL Certificate manually and install it on your web server. You have to open your web server software and upload the SSL Certificate from your computer folder to your web server directory. You will create or choose which directory you should install your SSL Certificate but be sure that it is in a root folder so that your certificate can be installed properly so it can protect your website.

After installing the certificate on your web server software, you will have to restart your web server so that the changes will take effect.

You can also contact your web hosting provider so that they can install the GoDaddy SSL Certificate for you. You will only have to provide the certificate file and intermediate certificates, if any, and wait for the confirmation that the installation was successful. This may take a while for the installation to take effect but once you have been informed about the installation, you will likely only have to wait for a while for the SSL Certificate to be successfully installed on your website.
