Moodle SSL Certificate

Moodle SSL Certificate

If you are using Moodle, you should make sure that you are using an SSL Certificate so that you will be able to check and install updates from the open-source software platform. Not using a Moodle SSL Certificate will not enable you to update your Moodle site because the remote site (Moodle.org) will not be able to verify your site. Because only secured transactions – transactions that are via HTTPS – enable websites to fetch data from Moodle.org, you will not be able to update your Moodle site without a secured connection.

Using an SSL Certificate on Moodle Sites

This is a simple issue to resolve – though it may sound complicated. You just have to use a Moodle SSL Certificate so that you can make your connection secure. This will make your site able to fetch data from Moogle.org.

  • Update Your Web Server’s Operating System

Make sure that your server’s operating system is updated so that your server has the SSL Certificates that are being issued by certificate authorities today. This will make sure that your server has the common certificates that are being issued by well-known and established certificate authorities.

  • Manually Upload Your SSL Certificate

If you cannot update your operating system, you can still use a Moodle SSL Certificate by manually providing it. Upload it to your moodledata/moodleorgca.crt file so that it will be the one that Moodle will recognize instead of the one that is being provided by the operating system. This way, you will have no problems about your SSL Certificate not being recognized.
