How to Buy and Install a GoDaddy Wildcard SSL Certificate

Installing and updating individual SSL Certificates can be quite a hassle. Purchasing individual SSL Certificates is not that expensive but the time-consuming process of renewing the digital certificates is quite frustrating. That’s why, purchasing a Wildcard SSL Certificate is the best solution for this kind of dilemma.

By selecting a Wildcard SSL Certificate, the renewal process of the SSL Certificates of multiple domains will be much easier. The cost of purchasing a Wildcard SSL Certificate is also cheaper compared to individual SSL Certificates for numerous domains. Adding domains is also much easier when using Wildcard SSL.

Purchasing a Wildcard SSL Certificate from GoDaddy is a great choice because they don’t charge extra for additional domains that you are going to add to your certificate.

How to Buy and Install a GoDaddy Wildcard SSL Certificate

Buying and installing a GoDaddy Wildcard SSL Certificate is quite easy.

  • Buying Process

Just go to your account, choose the product that you want to purchase, pay for the SSL Certificate and get the purchase receipt.

  • Installation Process

After purchasing the Wildcard SSL Certificate, go to your account, and then set up your new SSL Certificate that you had just paid for. The certificate will be labeled ‘New Certificate’ so it won’t be hard to find.

Hit ‘Launch’ on the Wildcard SSL Certificate and you will be taken to the ‘Secure Certificate Services’ page. Press ‘Credits’ then ‘Click Here To Update Your List’.

On the right side of the chart or table, click ‘Request Certificate’ then paste the CSR text on the text area provided for it. In generating your CSR, be sure that you are using a server software where there are no currently installed certificates to avoid getting stuck on the process.

  • Verification

After the upload of the CSR, the verification process should be done next. By just clicking a validation link, perhaps a few times, the validation process is complete.

  • Download and Installation

After the CSR was verified, you will receive two emails containing the confirmation of the successful verification and the instructions for the certificate copy download. After following the instructions on the second email, you should now have a .crt file and a .p7b file on a .zip file.

After the unzipping of the file, you can now install the GoDaddy Wildcard SSL Certificate on the server where you have generated your CSR. If the server that you use is not the one where you want to install your certificate on, you can simply install it then import it to its proper server.

Open your Certificate Wizard then choose the folder where you want to place your certificate file. You may provide a password to encrypt the .pfx file. If you are going to export it to another server, open the wizard then import the certificate from the .pfx file. Make the certificate file exportable by selecting ‘Mark the Key as Exportable’. On the Certificate Wizard, choose ‘Assign An Existing Certificate’ then select your Wildcard Certificate then set up the post to port 443 and you’re done.
